Vision for Education is currently recruiting Behaviour Support Teaching Assistants to work within supportive and growing PRU and specialist education settings across Abergavenny and surrounding areas.

You will be supporting both primary and secondary aged pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, and learning support within a structured and nurturing environment.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant in Abergavenny, you will:

• Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and within small groups
• Build strong, trusting, and positive relationships with pupils
• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs within the classroom
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support learning and pupil wellbeing
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning and classroom activities
• Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom environment
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Many pupils within PRU and specialist settings come from disadvantaged backgrounds and require positive role models, structure, consistency, and encouragement to achieve success within education.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
• Experience within education, care, youth work, coaching, or support-based roles
• A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to remain patient and professional under pressure
• Experience working with primary or secondary aged pupils
• Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques
• Team Teach, MAPA, or PROACT-SCIP training (desirable but not essential)
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register
