The SEN Teaching Assistant Role
You may support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including:
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
As a Teaching Assistant in Newport, your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
• Assisting teachers with classroom activities and lesson delivery
• Adapting learning materials to meet individual pupil needs
• Supporting pupils with behaviour, communication, and emotional wellbeing
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
• Encouraging pupil confidence, independence, and engagement in learning
• Working collaboratively within specialist SEN and ALN school settings
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for Teaching Assistants in Newport who are:
• Passionate about supporting children and young people
• Patient, adaptable, and positive in their approach
• Confident managing behaviour professionally and calmly
• Strong communicators with excellent relationship-building skills
• Experienced in education, childcare, care work, youth work, or support roles
Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 are desirable but not essential.
