The SEN Teaching Assistant Role
You may support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs, including:
• MLD – Moderate Learning Difficulties
• SLD – Severe Learning Difficulties
• ASC – Autism Spectrum Condition
• EBD – Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and lesson delivery
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual pupil needs
• Support pupils with communication, emotional wellbeing, and behaviour
• Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
• Encourage confidence, independence, and engagement within learning
• Work collaboratively within specialist SEN and ALN classroom settings

• Coaching and mentoring
Ideal candidates will have:
• A patient, positive, and adaptable approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to manage behaviour calmly and professionally
• Experience supporting children or young people
• CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications (desirable but not essential)
