About the Role
Vision for Education are recruiting an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH primary school in Henbury, Bristol.
This role is ideal for a TA with strong experience supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), including those with challenging behaviours and complex backgrounds. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, supported, and engaged, while fostering resilience, emotional regulation, and positive learning outcomes.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:

Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in 1:1 or small group settings

Using trauma-informed approaches and understanding of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) to guide support

Delivering interventions to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills

Managing challenging behaviours calmly, consistently, and positively

Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to implement individualised support plans

Assisting with structured classroom routines and maintaining a safe learning environment

Encouraging independence, confidence, and self-esteem

What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a confident and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant who:

Has experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and trauma

Is knowledgeable in trauma-informed approaches and ACEs
-
Can deliver targeted interventions and support both 1:1 and small groups
-
Has strong behaviour management skills and remains calm under pressure
-
Is reliable, adaptable, and professional
-
Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to obtain one)
