Youth Worker – SEMH Primary School (Trauma-Informed Practice)
North Bristol
Vision for Education are seeking a committed and compassionate Youth Worker to join a specialist SEMH primary school in North Bristol. This Youth Worker role supports pupils whose needs mean they struggle to express their emotions and often display challenging behaviours as a form of communication. The successful Youth Worker will use trauma-informed practice to help pupils feel safe, understood, and able to engage with learning.
This is a full-time Youth Worker position until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity to become permanent with the school for the right Youth Worker.
About the role:
As a Youth Worker, you will support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who may find it difficult to verbalise emotions and regulate their behaviour.
The Youth Worker role will involve:

Working as a Youth Worker on a one-to-one and small-group basis

Supporting pupils who struggle to express emotions and instead present challenging behaviours

Using trauma-informed approaches as a Youth Worker to support emotional regulation and behaviour

Building strong, consistent relationships as a Youth Worker to help pupils feel safe and supported

Encouraging positive routines, engagement, and attendance

Following teacher guidance while using Youth Worker insight to manage conflict and dysregulation

Supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom as a Youth Worker
Hours: 8:15am – 3:45pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time until the end of the academic year, term time only, with the potential for a permanent Youth Worker role

About you:
The ideal Youth Worker will:

Have experience as a Youth Worker or in a similar role supporting children with SEMH needs, trauma, or challenging behaviour

Understand that challenging behaviour is often a child’s way of communicating unmet emotional needs
-
Be calm, patient, and non-judgemental in their approach as a Youth Worker
-
Be confident building positive relationships with pupils who may struggle with emotional expression, trust, and boundaries
-
Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification (Youth Work, Children and Young People’s Workforce, Sports Coaching, etc.) desirable but not essential

Be able to provide suitable references and hold, or be willing to apply for, an Enhanced DBS
