About the role

About the Role

Vision for Education are recruiting caring and committed Primary Teaching Assistants to support children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis in schools across Thornbury.

This role is offered on a 0-hour contract, providing flexibility to suit your availability, with opportunities to progress into long-term and permanent positions.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s education and development. You will be working closely with pupils who may have SEND needs such as ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you may:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs
  • Help implement EHCP targets and individual learning plans
  • Support learning through adapted activities and interventions
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the child you support
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment

Assignments can range from short-term cover to long-term placements, with many opportunities to transition from a 0-hour contract into a permanent role.

Flexible Work to Suit You

We offer Teaching Assistants:

  • A 0-hour contract offering full flexibility
  • Day-to-day supply work to fit your schedule
  • Short-term placements to gain experience
  • Long-term 1:1 roles in supportive schools
  • Clear pathways into permanent positions

You choose when and where you work, giving you control over your work-life balance.

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for this role, you should:

  • Have experience working with children, ideally in a school or care setting
  • Have a passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Be patient, nurturing, and resilient
  • Be confident working 1:1 with pupils who may need extra support
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one

Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential for candidates with the right attitude and experience.

What We Offer

  • Competitive daily rates, paid weekly via PAYE
  • Flexible working through a 0-hour contract
  • Access to a dedicated consultant
  • FREE training and professional development opportunities
  • Pension contributions (subject to qualifying period)
  • Refer-a-friend bonus scheme
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles

We partner with a range of welcoming and inclusive primary schools in Thornbury, offering consistent opportunities for Teaching Assistants to gain experience and develop their careers in SEND support.
