Job Title: Challenging Behaviour Support Worker - SEMH School (Primary & Secondary)
Location: Bath
Contract Type: Temporary / Long-Term / Temp-to-Perm
Working Hours: Full-Time (Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30, Term Time Only)
Salary: £85-£110 per day
About the role
Are you passionate about helping children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs thrive - both in and outside the classroom?
Do you have the resilience and enthusiasm to support students who learn differently and need consistent, compassionate guidance?
We are recruiting on behalf of a fantastic all-through SEMH school (Primary & Secondary) in Bath and surrounding areas, seeking dedicated Challenging Behaviour Support Workers to join their specialist team. This is a unique setting that places a strong emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning including gymnastics, forest school, swimming, and other therapeutic activities.
The Role:
-
Supporting children aged 5–16 with SEMH needs and complex behavioural profiles.
-
Working closely with students 1:1 and in small groups, encouraging participation in both classroom learning and therapeutic, outdoor or physical activities.
-
Assisting pupils during enrichment sessions such as gymnastics, swimming, forest school, and sensory activities.
-
Helping students regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
-
Collaborating with teaching staff, therapists, and wider pastoral teams to implement behaviour plans and personalised interventions.
About You:
-
Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, autism, or additional needs (in schools, care, youth work, or community settings).
-
Confident, calm and consistent - with a natural ability to de-escalate situations and build trust.
-
Physically active and comfortable engaging in a wide range of activities including swimming, outdoor learning, and movement-based therapy.
-
Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and safeguarding best practice.
What You’ll Get:
-
A unique opportunity to work in a setting that values holistic, practical learning and emotional development.
-
Supportive agency consultants who understand SEMH education.
-
Weekly pay and access to CPD and behaviour management training.
-
Opportunities for long-term and permanent placements within a highly regarded SEMH provision.
-
A chance to make a genuine, lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
What We’re Looking For:
-
Genuine care and commitment to supporting vulnerable children and young people.
-
Resilience, an open mind, and the ability to adapt quickly to challenging situations.
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills, able to collaborate effectively with staff and external professionals.
-
Experience working with children with SEMH, SEN, autism, or behavioural challenges (desirable).
-
Active, hands-on and confident engaging in physical or outdoor activities.
-
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (we can support with this process).
This isn’t your average classroom, it’s a space where every child is given the tools, support and trust to grow.
If you’re ready to be part of a team that champions inclusion, resilience and personalised education, we’d love to hear from you.
