Loving the UK lifestyle
Dylan’s story
share

Dylan was working in Australia as a fully qualified teacher before deciding to follow his dream to travel and live abroad. He wanted to go to a country that spoke English and somewhere he would be able to work as a primary teacher because he wanted to make the transition and his experience easier to manage. Having spoken to friends who had travelled to the UK, Dylan decided that now was his time and the UK was the place.

He said: “A mate of mine who I used to play sport with was living in the UK and he had a lot of positive things to say about the country, so I thought it was a good opportunity especially as I’ve always wanted to live abroad. Getting advice from someone I trusted really helped me find out how to make the move and make my final decision to travel.”

When looking for work opportunities abroad, Dylan took recommendations from friends about using an agency. He shares: “Another friend from home recommended using Edwin Education so that I could teach on supply when I got to the UK. When I got in touch, they made the transition very clear and easy and told me exactly what I needed to do. Applying with Edwin Education was so simple and straight forward.”

Working as a primary teacher in the UK has not only broadened his life experiences but also his teaching experiences. He shares: “Whilst working on supply for Edwin Education, I’ve experienced a range of different teaching styles and behavioural issues with students, which has taught me what things are most effective in the classroom and what works for me. Plus, Edwin Education has been really supportive in always finding me work that is easy for me to access via public transport, which makes getting to schools much easier.”

Since coming to the UK, Dylan has been really happy with his decision. He shares: “I’ve really enjoyed myself these past few months and I love the lifestyle in the UK. There have been a few things I’ve had to get used to like how early the sun sets in winter – that was a huge adjustment for me. But overall, I’m really enjoying the new experiences and I’m really excited to see where my next supply teaching opportunities lead me.”
