Vision for Education are recruiting for a Specialist Teaching Assistant for children and young people with vision impairment to support pupils who are registered as severely sight impaired (blind).
About the role
Working in this wonderful school as part of an established team, the desired Specialist Teaching Assistant will involve working one to one within and outside of the classroom, delivering targeted support, as well as helping to support the further development of intervention strategies, such as guided reading.
The right candidate will enjoy working with a team to support with the planning and implementation of support and intervention programmes, work with the external agencies and support the SENDCO with daily co-ordination and support of specific students with Visual impairment. This full time Specialist Teaching Assistant role is long term and potentially permanent.
About the school
This service provides hearing and/or vision support for learners (0 -25 years). The team have qualified teachers who are specially trained in supporting learners with hearing and/or vision loss.
Requirements
- To promote the access, achievements and well-being of children and young people who are sight impaired/severe sight impaired many of whom have additional or complex needs.
- To provide information, support and advice about visual impairment to parents/carers and schools.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, working in partnership with parents and other professionals.
- Experience of using specialist Braille equipment and specialist ICT equipment for VI
- Experience of working with, or caring for, children with VI
- Some involvement with additional complex learning, physical, communication, social and emotional needs.

£12 to £12 per hour
