We are looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant for a role in Carnforth, starting in September 2022.

About the role

The school are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who has experience in working with students with SEND needs including Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and Learning Difficulties/Disabilities.

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant would be working with students across the school aged from 5-19 years old. The students are across a broad cognitive profile ranging from those at an early developmental stage up to those who may follow entry level/ GCSE programmes.

The students may be displaying challenging behaviour due to the mismatch of provision to need or struggling to sustain attendance in lessons or school because of the environment or curriculum. Typically, they may be making poor or limited progress. Sometimes they may be exhibiting anxiety or distress, so the SEN Teaching Assistant must be comfortable in working with students with multiple barriers to learning.

About the school

The school is an Outstanding school (Ofsted- July 2017). The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 with Profound and Multiple learning Difficulties, some with associated complex needs and some with Autism.

We also have a residential element which is in addition to our school. As an SEN Class Teacher you will work under the direction of the Head teacher and alongside our strong, yet supportive Leadership team. You will be instrumental in ensuring school values and ethos continue throughout the school day, maintaining and adding to our already Outstanding Ofsted.

The school is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just 10 mins from Jct 35 M6. The school has a wealth of resources, including a swimming pool, Rebound room and a bespoke sensory suite.

  • Previous experience of working in an SEN environment as a Teaching Assistant
  • Be proactive and empathetic in your approach, always aiming to achieve the best possible outcomes for the students you work with
  • Have the ability to lead small group and 1:1 activities under the direction of the teacher
