We are looking for entry level SEN Teaching Assistant candidates (Level 1) working with schools across the Burnley area in ad-hoc and longer term roles.

About the role

The successful Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant will be tasked with working with classes made up of students aged between 5 and 16 across a variety of educational settings, working closely with students that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The role is well suited for applicants who have experience working with children with SEN outside of education in roles such as youth work, support work, nurseries, relevant volunteering and before- and after-school clubs.

Any candidate for the SEN Teaching Assistant role must have completed a minimum of 5 days of experience working with children within the last 2 years to be considered for working in schools and other educational settings.

Working under the direction of the class teacher, the ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will be energetic, flexible, positive and patient, with an ability to build strong working relationships with young people.

Duties will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher to deliver work in accordance with the National Curriculum and specialised individual curriculum plans.
  • Assisting the class teacher with behaviour management.
  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small group basis.
  • Working well as part of a team of Teaching Assistants within the classroom.
  • Contributing to record keeping and working with Educational Healthcare Plans (EHCPs) to ensure the best progress for students with SEND.

About the school

The schools we work with pride themselves on creating a secure and inclusive environment for the children they support, putting their needs at the centre of everything they do. The settings benefit from supportive senior leadership teams and wider school communities with a nurturing and inclusive environment where strong relationships between children and staff form all the basic aspects of school life.

  • Be proactive and empathetic in your approach, always aiming to achieve the best possible outcomes for the students you work with.
