Your Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant in Cwmbran

In this role, you will support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by working closely with teachers and school staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You will help students develop academically, socially, and emotionally through tailored support.

You’ll be supporting children with:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • PMLD and complex learning needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Assist with lesson delivery, classroom preparation, and behaviour management
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and safeguarding procedures
  • Support personal care needs where required

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (PMLD experience desirable)
  • A patient, adaptable, and positive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEN qualifications are advantageous but not essential
