Location: Hull, East Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: MPS1–UPS3 (£30,000 – £46,525 per annum) TLR 2a (£3,214 – £7,847, dependent on experience and responsibility)
The Role
Vision for Education are working in partnership with a high-performing secondary academy in Hull to appoint a dedicated and ambitious Second in Department for Science. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in September 2026.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Science teacher who is ready to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will support the Head of Department in driving forward standards across Science, while also delivering high-quality lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics across Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Science across KS3 and GCSE, covering Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Support the Head of Department in raising attainment and improving teaching and learning within Science
- Contribute to curriculum planning, development, and assessment strategies
- Lead by example in delivering outstanding classroom practice
- Monitor student progress and implement interventions where necessary
- Support with departmental data analysis and exam preparation strategies
- Contribute to enrichment activities and the wider school community

Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4 (GCSE)
- Evidence of high-quality classroom practice and improving student outcomes
- Leadership experience or readiness to take on a middle leadership role
- Excellent communication, organisation, and team leadership skills
