Vision for Education are looking to grow their talented and driven educational support team with a vacancy for a PRU/AP Teaching Assistant to work with schools in the Preston area.
About the role
The role of PRU/AP Teaching Assistant is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to pupils lives and their experience of school, especially those who have become disengaged from education. You will be required to support in classes, working in small groups and 1:1, assisting pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and dealing with behavioural issues.
The age of the students are all secondary based from ages 11-16 and the students are based in the schools due to three factors:
- Permanent exclusion from their mainstream school.
- Medical placements that their mainstream school cannot meet.
- Alternative Provision to support behaviour or have specialist input to support Education, Health and Care (EHCP) plans.
About the school
The schools supply alternative provision for students that are unable to access mainstream provisional education. They support young adults and students who have either been permanently excluded from their mainstream school or are at risk of exclusion. The schools deliver our alternative programmes in collaboration with external providers.
KS3 pupils, generally, follow a mainstream curriculum offer so that they are able to reintegrate back, as appropriate, into local schools. At KS4, there is flexibility and we offer a more personalised approach with pupils following an academic pathway, a vocational pathway or a mixture of both.
They have an inclusive philosophy and believe passionately in ensuring that all pupils are given the opportunities, skills, knowledge and qualifications to ensure that they are able to reintegrate back into mainstream education or on to specialist provision, further education employment or training.
Requirements
- The ability to facilitate a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalate any threatening or aggressive behaviour.
- A desire mentor and engage with students, building positive relationships.
