About the role

Mental Health Youth Support Worker
Blyth | Full Time
£440–£500 per week (depending on experience and/or qualifications)
April 2026 Start – Long Term Role

The School and Role

We are recruiting a committed Mental Health Youth Support Worker to join a Good-rated Secondary SEND SEMH school in Blyth from February 2026. This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You will be supporting secondary-aged pupils (Key Stages 3 and 4) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, all of whom have an EHCP. Classes are small, allowing you to build strong, consistent relationships and provide meaningful, targeted support.

Many students have experienced barriers to learning or previous disengagement from education. The school’s ethos focuses on restoring confidence, building trust, and developing emotional regulation, independence, and pro-social behaviour, helping pupils prepare positively for adulthood and the workplace.

The school is also developing a new pathway focused on community outreach and extracurricular sport, designed to increase engagement, promote wellbeing, and build teamwork, resilience, and positive social skills through real-life experiences.

You will work as part of an experienced, supportive team in a structured and nurturing environment where staff wellbeing and collaboration are valued.

Requirements

The ideal Mental Health Youth Support Worker will have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged young people

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and/or SEND

  • A strong commitment to helping young people make progress

  • The ability to work effectively within a team

  • Confidence in managing fast-paced and challenging situations

  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) to support a quick start

What We Offer

As part of our team, you will benefit from:

  • Competitive Pay – £440–£500 per week, paid weekly via PAYE

  • Work–Life Balance – No planning or marking outside school hours

  • Long-Term Stability – Ongoing role with potential for permanency

  • Ongoing CPD – Access to regular training and professional development

  • Career Development – Opportunities to build experience within SEND

  • Dedicated Support – Ongoing guidance from your own personal consultant
