The School and Role
We are delighted to be working with a high achieving school in Benfleet who are seeking a Graduate Teacher to support students and cover in the absence of the class teacher. Our partnering Secondary school is seeking a confident Graduate Teacher who is able to teach their subject specialism with lessons already pre-planned for you. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work towards their QTS from September, through a salaried teacher training route.
As a Graduate Teacher, you will be responsible for leading lessons of approximately 30 pupils in the absence of the class teacher. You will cover lessons from KS3-KS4 so you must have a good knowledge of your specialist subject up to GCSE. The lesson will always be planned, and this will be provided in advance. It is your role as the Graduate Teacher to facilitate the classes learning, manage classroom behaviour, record accurate registers, and provide a handover to the absent teacher. Successful Graduate Teachers are adaptable, flexible, motivated, confident and organised, they have a passion for education and supporting young people.
This Graduate Teacher role provides a great opportunity to gain experience of working within a Secondary school prior to applying to Initial Teacher Training. Although previous experience of working in a Secondary School is desirable it is not essential. Successful Graduate Teachers will complete our Trainee Cover Supervisor Programme in December, ready to start your new role in January.
Requirements
The desired Graduate Teacher will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in a subject taught at secondary school from a top University.
- Knowledge of your specialist subject up to GCSE.
- A natural leader and someone with the confidence to lead a lesson in the absence of the class teacher.
- A passion for education and providing the highest possible level of support to young people.
