Vision for Education are proud to be working in partnership with a Housing Association to recruit a Basic Skills Officer / Functional Skills Tutor for an initial 12-month fixed term contract.

About the role

The main purpose of this Basic Skills Officer / Functional Skills Tutor position is to develop and deliver the housing association’s accredited functional skills training, ensuring a high-quality offer that meets the needs of service users. This role will require the delivery of both face to face and remote learning sessions of functional skills Maths & ESOL.

This position has the potential to become permanent after the fixed term contract.

The successful candidate will be joining a large housing association who provide high quality and affordable homes for people priced out of the property market. They support both residents and non-residents back into work, and gain apprenticeships through the delivery of functional skills sessions, training and employment advice and guidance

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Functional Skills Tutor you will:
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Have (or be willing to work towards) a relevant assessor qualification
  • Experience delivering functional skills (including ESOL highly desirable)
  • Confident delivering online learning/remote sessions
  • Proficient using ICT packages such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Effective communication skills

Key responsibilities

As Functional Skills Tutor you will be responsible for:
  • Support service users in achieving Functional Skills qualifications, as well as working with team members to progress individuals holistically
  • Plan, prepare and deliver Functional Skills sessions alongside other relevant qualifications
  • Regularly assess service users work to awarding body and Ofsted criteria
  • Support service users to achieve outcomes that enables them to progress into work, apprenticeships, or further education
  • Develop good working partnerships with organisations who are able to help individuals to achieve their goals i.e. employers, local colleges and training providers

£34,739 to £35,739 per year

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • Recognised teaching qualification and relevant experience
