Vision for Education are seeking enthusiastic Trainee Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools. This is a fantastic opportunity for sports coaches, youth mentors or those with relevant experience to gain valuable training and employment working

About the role

Trainee Cover Supervisor

Tameside
£500 – £600 per week
Start Date: March 2026
Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Are you a sports coach, youth worker, mentor, or experienced in supporting young people?

Looking to take your skills into the classroom and start a rewarding career in education?

If you already work with children or young people and confidently lead groups, this could be the ideal next step for you.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will lead classes of around 30 students in the absence of the class teacher. Lessons are fully pre-planned — your role is to bring energy, leadership, and strong behaviour management skills to ensure students stay engaged and on track.

You will:

  • Deliver pre-set lessons with confidence

  • Manage classroom behaviour and dynamics

  • Motivate and engage students

  • Take accurate registers

  • Provide clear feedback and a smooth handover to teaching staff

Your background in coaching, mentoring, youth work, or similar roles means you already have the transferable skills schools value — leadership, resilience, communication, and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.

We are working with supportive secondary schools across Tameside who are keen to welcome confident role models from non-traditional education backgrounds.

Comprehensive Training Programme

Vision for Education’s Cover Supervisor Training Programme, developed in partnership with North East Partnership SCITT, is designed to equip you with the classroom management techniques, safeguarding knowledge, and practical strategies needed to succeed.

We have successfully run this programme over the past two years, with many candidates securing long-term placements and permanent contracts following excellent school feedback.

Who We’re Looking For

To be considered for the role of Trainee Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people (e.g., sports coaching, youth work, mentoring, tutoring, residential support, or similar)

  • Be confident leading and managing groups

  • Have strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Be able to provide suitable references

  • Hold a valid DBS check (or be willing to obtain one)

  • Have the Right to Work in the UK

Safeguarding Commitment

Vision for Education is committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All applicants will undergo thorough interviewing and referencing checks and must hold, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
