Vision for Education is seeking an Assistant Headteacher – SEND for a thriving primary school in Accrington, Lancashire. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a strong leadership team and make a significant impact on inclusive education and pupil outcomes.


The Role

As Assistant Headteacher – SEND, you will play a central role in the Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic vision and operational leadership for SEND provision across the school. You will work closely with the Inclusion Manager and SEND team to ensure high-quality teaching and learning for all pupils.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing SEND provision across the school.
  • Supporting staff through SEND CPD and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Monitoring and evaluating pupil progress and outcomes.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory SEND requirements and EHCP reviews.
  • Driving improvements in teaching and learning for SEND pupils.
  • Reporting to governance on SEND standards and school improvement plans.

Person Specification

Essential qualities include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Proven excellence in teaching within the primary phase.
  • Recent and relevant experience of working with children with SEND.
  • Strong understanding of SEND policy, adaptive teaching and assessment strategies.
  • Experience of leading whole-school initiatives and curriculum areas, particularly SEND/Inclusion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with staff, parents and external agencies.

Desirable qualities include:

  • NASENCO qualification or willingness to complete within 18 months.
  • Leadership or management qualification.
  • Experience of line management and policy development.
  • Accredited training in areas such as Autism or Dyslexia.
