About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of autistic children and young people? Are you eager to begin your journey into teaching within a highly supportive and specialist environment? Join us through the National Teaching Programme (N-TAP) and train as a SEND Specialist Teacher while gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

About the Opportunity ⭐

This is a unique chance to train within a specialist provision supporting autistic pupils aged 3–19 with additional learning, communication, and sensory needs. As an N-TAP trainee, you will work closely with experienced teachers, therapists, and behaviour specialists while completing structured training that leads toward Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of personalised, autism-specific learning programmes

  • Working in small classes with high staff-to-pupil ratios

  • Developing skills in specialist approaches such as TEACCH, PECS, and sensory-based strategies

  • Supporting pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, and independence

  • Assisting with assessment, recording, and EHCP-linked learning goals

  • Building strong relationships with pupils, families, and the wider multi-disciplinary team

Ideal Candidate

  • Graduates or career-changers passionate about SEND and education

  • Experience (paid or voluntary) with children, young people, or adults with autism or additional needs is desirable but not essential

  • A positive, calm, and resilient attitude

  • A commitment to inclusive practice and pupil-centred learning

  • Enthusiasm to learn, grow, and develop as a future SEND teacher

What We Offer

  • A fully supported training pathway through the National Teaching Programme

  • Mentoring from experienced SEND practitioners and QTS-qualified teachers

  • Specialist in-house training (autism practice, communication, behaviour support)

  • Access to therapy teams for collaborative learning

  • A warm, inclusive, and highly skilled staff community

  • A meaningful and rewarding role where you help transform young lives
