The sky’s the limit when it comes to supporting our schools

Vision for Education’s SEND consultant Charlotte Spencer will be raising money for Millie’s Voice by undertaking a sponsored skydive on 28 June at North Lincoln airfield.

Millie is a 13 year old girl who has ‘Rett Syndrome’. This meant that at 15 months’ old she regressed, resulting in losing her speech and being unable to do anything without physical help. She therefore communicates through her eyes, her laughs and her screams. The aim of the charity is to buy Millie a Tobii Eye Gaze device which would follow her eyes, enabling her to make choices and communicate effectively, opening up a whole new amazing life.

Therefore, when Meadowcroft School told Vision for Education about their fundraising plans for Millie they immediately wanted to help. Vision agreed to fund a skydive for headteacher Lynette Edwards in order to raise sponsorship money towards the £15k target. However, this wasn’t enough for Charlotte who, in true Vision style, wanted to go that bit further and agreed to also do the jump herself to try and increase the sponsorship raised.

Charlotte said, ‘When I heard about Meadowcroft School’s efforts to help raise money for such a worthwhile charity, I knew we had to help. Vision was delighted to fund the skydive, but as well as that I wanted to do my bit personally so agreed to do the jump to try and raise as much money as possible. Although, as I’m scared of heights, I’m wondering what I’ve got myself into!’

Lynette Edwards added ‘We’re so grateful to Vision and to Charlotte for all their support in raising money for this fantastic cause. Millie has such an incredible personality, wonderful smile, and has a love for music. It would be amazing if we could achieve this for her.

‘The whole school has been busy raising money through mud runs, quizzes, raffles, cake sales and dress up days and all pupils are keen to know if we are going to be able to get the machine. We are some way off yet but staff and pupils are all determined to raise as much as possible, even to the extent of pushing the headteacher out of a plane!!!’

Children from Meadowcroft School will be going along to the airfield to watch and cheer on their headteacher.
