FAQs

Who am I employed by?

If you are working on supply, you will be employed by Vision for Education and therefore paid by us. This means you can work a number of different placements without worrying about who’s dealing with your pay. It also entitles you to the range of benefits on offer to all our employees.

If you get a permanent job through us, you will be employed by the school.

I’ve completed the registration process and been cleared for work, when will I hear from you?

We will be in touch as soon as we find a suitable role that matches your skills, experiences and preferences.

How do I register?

You need to complete the online registration form or apply for one of our advertised jobs. Once we’ve received your details, if you have the skills / qualifications we are looking for, one of our consultants from your local branch will be in touch to discuss your application and what happens next.

We will then invite you into the branch for a face-to-face interview. If all goes well, your details will be passed to our independent safeguarding department who will complete a number of background checks that are needed to clear you ready for work. We will then contact you as soon as suitable position becomes available.

Can I work part-time?

Yes. As part of your interview, we will ask you what types of work are suitable, and what days you would prefer. We will do everything possible to find you placements that fit your needs, so you can work as and when it suits you.

How much notice of work will I get?

This depends on what you have agreed with your consultant at interview. If you have said you are happy to cover same-day supply work, we will ask you to be ready for 7.30am each day, so we can put you forward for any urgent requirements. However, we will always give you as much notice as possible.

When will I get paid?

Providing you get your timesheet to us on time, you will be paid on the Friday following the week that you worked.

What happens if I am sick / running late?

You’ll need to contact your local consultant as soon as possible, so they can let the school know, and/or organise a replacement for you on that day.

Do agencies have permanent roles?

Yes. We offer permanent as well as supply roles. All our current vacancies are advertised on our jobs pages. Alternatively, you can register stating you’re looking for permanent work. Our dedicated permanent team will get in touch to discuss your needs.

Will I have to go to the most challenging schools?

We will discuss your experience and what environments you are comfortable in during your interview, so we can match you to placements you will be happy with. You will never be asked to go into a school environment that you are not confident in.

Will supply teaching look bad on my CV?

Not at all. Supply teaching gives you the chance to improve your skills in a number of school environments. You will gain unique experiences and learning platforms to set you apart from people who have only worked in one place and may be less able to adapt.

Will working on supply limit my access to CPD courses?

Not with Vision for Education. We run a continuous programme of free CPD courses for all our teaching staff. Find out what’s coming up in your area by checking out our events page.

How regular is the work? I’m concerned about the insecurity of an irregular income.

At interview we will ask you how many hours you’d ideally like to work, and we’ll aim to find you placements that suit your needs. As well as day-to-day supply, we offer longer-term placements. In some cases, we can also offer our guaranteed pay scheme, which could mean you get paid whether we’ve found you work or not!

Will I have to work far away from home?

We will check at interview how far you are prepared to travel, and we’ll always try to find you work within the area you are comfortable commuting to.

I’m recently qualified and need to complete my induction. Is it possible to do that on supply?

It certainly is. If you are an NQT, let us know and we can find you placements that will support you towards completing a successful induction.

How do I know if I will enjoy supply work?

Our experienced and friendly consultants will talk you through exactly what to expect on supply, and will always be on hand to advise you if you are ever unsure. We will take the time to get to know you and place you in schools that are best suited to your skills and experience, so you can feel confident in every placement.

I’m an NQT, will schools want me?

We place a large number of NQTs each year, and demand from schools to recruit at this level is very high. Talk to us about your needs – we have both supply and permanent positions available.

I’m an experienced teacher, will schools want me?

We have a large demand for experienced teachers in both supply and permanent positions, with a particular shortage of teachers in STEM subject areas. Get in touch to find out what we can offer you.
