About the role

SEMH Teacher – South Bristol
Full-Time | Long-Term | Immediate & Future Starts

This role suits a SEMH Teacher who understands that behaviour is communication, and who can remain calm, steady, and reflective even on challenging days. Relationships come first in this school, with staff working closely together to create a safe, structured environment where pupils can rebuild trust and confidence.

The school supports pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, often alongside additional needs such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or experiences of trauma. Small class sizes and strong pastoral support allow teachers the time and space to teach in a meaningful, impactful way.

We’re looking for a SEMH Teacher who:

  • Is calm, consistent, and emotionally intelligent

  • Has experience in SEMH, PRU, or trauma-informed settings (or a strong interest in this area)

  • Understands that behaviour reflects unmet needs

  • Can set clear boundaries while remaining compassionate

  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Is confident adapting lessons to suit emotional and academic needs

  • Works closely with TAs, pastoral teams, and therapists

  • Can manage challenging behaviour safely and professionally

  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion

  • Is looking for a long-term role where relationships truly matter

  • A staff team that genuinely looks out for each other

  • Training in trauma-informed practice and behaviour support

  • Small classes and realistic expectations
