A Youth Day Centre in Leeds is seeking full-time support staff to join their permanent team.
About the role
As a Support Worker, you will be supporting young people with Learning Disabilities, Complex Needs and Communication Barriers with their daily routine. You will be engaging with the students and helping them to gain life skills which will support them in adulthood. You will also assist them on trips out of the provision and in the community to help increase their independence and interaction.
The responsibilities of a Support Worker are to build a relationship with the students in order to fully understand their needs and requirements. You will be supporting the students to take part in pre-planned activities like crafts and baking to enhance their sensory skills and gain life experience. Depending on the needs of the students, it may also be required to provide support with personal care and /or moving and handling tasks.
About the school
The environment in which you will be working will be in a Day Centre which caters for students between 19 and 30 with a wide range of needs from moderate to severe learning difficulties and Complex Needs. The Day Centre is committed to providing an environment in which all pupils can feel safe, happy, accepted and integrated, so that they are able to develop to their full potential.
Requirements
- Be available Monday to Friday 08:45 – 16.30.
- Be happy to support students with personal care (if required).
- Be willing to undergo a DBS check.
- Have a minimum of 6 months experience supporting children, young people or adults with learning disabilities.
