About the role

The ideal candidate will have prior experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant (applications from ECTs are welcome), specifically with Autism and complex learning difficulties due to the nature of the students in the school.

The SEN Teaching Assistant will be comfortable in dealing with a variety of SEND needs including Autism, ADHD and Specific Learning Difficulties and working as part of a team with numerous Teaching Assistants within the class.

The school are looking for experience as a Teaching Assistant in either a Primary or Secondary setting, alongside desirable experience of working within an SEN setting.

Key aspects of the role are:

  • To work with pupils who have learning difficulties usually with a EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) of Special Educational Needs.
  • The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will be prepared to ‘go the extra mile’ to support very special young people.
  • You will be required to prepare and adapt materials suitable for pupils with learning difficulties to use in class.

About the school

The school is the main SEN setting for the Furness area, working closely with students who have various degrees of Autism and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. It is a co-educational site with students ranging from 4-19 years old.

  • As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you would be required to meet the holistic needs of the pupils of the children under the direction of the class teacher and senior staff.
  • There are opportunities for the role to become a permanent position after a qualifying period is worked.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEN Teaching Assistant you will:
  • Be able to motivate and support pupil(s) to remain on task and complete work in a focused way.
  • Have recent experience working in a school/setting as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Have an enthusiasm for supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • You will be committed to personal learning and development.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • Desirable qualifications are to hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
