About the role

SEN Teaching Assistant – Newport
Full-time, term-time position available

Vision for Education is seeking a caring, motivated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive ALN school in Newport. This rewarding opportunity involves supporting pupils aged 3 to 16 with additional learning needs (ALN), helping to improve their learning, confidence and overall wellbeing.

If you are passionate about helping children and young people thrive, particularly those with ALN or behavioural challenges, this role could be an ideal next step in your education or support career.

In this role, you will provide targeted support to pupils with a range of additional learning needs, working both in mainstream classrooms and designated ALN settings. You will play a key part in helping pupils feel confident, supported and fully included in school life.

This is a varied and highly fulfilling position where every day brings the chance to make a genuine difference.

About the role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 3 to 16 with a range of additional learning needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and wider support teams to help pupils engage with learning, develop independence and achieve their potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Your key responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with ALN
• Encourage independence and assist with personal care when required
• Support positive behaviour using consistent, tailored strategies
• Help prepare learning resources and support classroom delivery
• Work closely with teachers, parents and external professionals to support pupil progress
• Promote an inclusive, safe and respectful learning environment

Who we’re looking for

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in education or care
• A calm, patient and flexible individual with a genuine passion for supporting ALN pupils
• Knowledge of ALN or a strong interest in inclusive practice
• Confidence in managing behaviour in a positive and nurturing way
• A team player with excellent communication skills
• A driving licence and access to transport is helpful but not essential

What we offer

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will receive:

• Competitive daily pay of £88.92 to £101.92, depending on experience, paid weekly via PAYE
• Full-time, term-time hours (8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Free access to training and CPD opportunities, including ALN-focused development
• £125 Refer-a-Friend bonus
• Ongoing support from a dedicated education consultant
• Easy-to-use app to manage your availability and timesheets
• Automatic enrolment into a workplace pension scheme

Why become a SEN Teaching Assistant?

This role is more than classroom support. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be a valued member of an ALN school community, helping children and young people overcome barriers, build confidence and reach their potential. Each day offers the opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on the lives of pupils aged 3 to 16 with ALN.

Whether you are experienced or just starting your journey in education, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a school that invests in its staff and places inclusion and care at the heart of everything it does.
