About the role

Are you an SEMH Teaching Assistant with either the experience or desire to work with pupils with moderate, severe, and complex needs? A fantastic support role is available working within a highly rewarding Social Emotional and Mental Health school setting in Wigan from September 2022.

  • Providing support to students on a small group and 1:1 basis, encouraging progression and delivering tailored sessions
  • The SEMH TA will work on developing social, emotional, and mental well-being, as well as building confidence and working on positive behaviours
  • Pupils are all aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs, as well as associated needs such as Autism
  • There are opportunities for the role to become permanent with the school after a qualifying period

About the school

  • This school offers an adapted curriculum, to account for any gaps in the pupil’s education
  • Pupils are all permanently excluded or at high risk of permanent exclusion from their mainstream school, however many successfully re-engage in mainstream or gain academic success within the provision
  • Some pupils can display verbal or physically challenging behaviours so in this role we require a candidate with strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEMH Teaching Assistant you will:
  • A desire to mentor and engage with students, building positive relationships
  • The ability to facilitate a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalate any threatening or aggressive behaviour
  • This school is based in Wigan, so be willing to working in the Wigan area is a must

Salary

£70 to £80 per day

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • Have relevant experience of working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
