Employer: Vision for Education

Vision for Education is recruiting a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant to work in the Newport area, supporting primary to secondary-aged pupils, with a strong emphasis on one-to-one support. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking Behavioural Support jobs in Newport or looking to progress within education support roles.

This position is based within a pupil referral provision supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs across both primary and secondary phases. The setting focuses on consistent, personalised support through a holistic and practical approach, recognising each pupil’s individual needs, experiences and strengths.

Many pupils face significant challenges outside of education, and school provides essential structure, routine and stability. As a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and motivated to engage positively with learning and school life.

The school is seeking a calm, resilient and nurturing individual who can build strong, trusting relationships and respond confidently to challenging behaviour. You will support pupils during periods of dysregulation using effective strategies, helping them regulate emotions, access a calm environment and gradually re-engage with learning. A proactive, solution-focused and consistent approach is key to success in this role.

A Team Teach qualification or similar behaviour management training is desirable but not essential, as full training and CPD opportunities are available.

What the Role Involves

Providing one-to-one behavioural and emotional support to pupils
Building consistent and trusting relationships
Supporting emotional regulation using practical strategies
Using de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour approaches
Working closely with teachers and the wider support team
Encouraging engagement, confidence and participation in learning
Promoting emotional wellbeing and positive social interaction
Remaining calm, adaptable and resilient in challenging situations

What We’re Looking For

Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
Experience working on a one-to-one basis with primary and/or secondary pupils
Team Teach, PROACT-SCIP or MAPA training (desirable)
A calm, empathetic and practical approach
The ability to remain composed under pressure
Understanding of the primary and/or secondary curriculum
Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register

The school regularly offers permanent opportunities to Teaching Assistants who demonstrate commitment, consistency and a genuine passion for supporting pupil wellbeing. This role is well suited to those seeking a long-term career in education, behavioural support or child development.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with backgrounds in care, support work, youth work, sports coaching or education. Transferable skills are highly valued, and applicants without direct school experience are encouraged to apply.

For more information or to apply, please contact Ben or submit your CV for consideration.

We look forward to hearing from you.
