Vision for Education are looking for Behavioural Support Assistants in the Abergavenny Area.
About the role
Behavioural Support Assistant
- Do you have experience supporting individuals who display challenging behaviour?
- Are you passionate about being a positive role model to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds?
- Interested in an excellent weekly rate of pay from £462.80 – £550 per week?
- Looking to access CPD training opportunities?
- Company pension scheme and additional benefits available
- Seeking a rewarding and challenging role?
- Considering a long-term career in the education sector?
- Vision for Education are actively recruiting individuals with a background in supporting adults or children who display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) across the Abergavenny area.
We work closely with a pupil referral unit (PRU) seeking a Behavioural Support Assistant to support pupils on both a 1:1 and small group basis.
Often, these pupils are labelled as the “naughty” children, which is rarely the full story. Many come from disadvantaged and challenging backgrounds, and school is their safe space — a place where positive role models can make a real and lasting difference.
The school is looking for someone genuinely interested in helping guide pupils in a positive direction and acting as a strong role model. You will be expected to build meaningful relationships and de-escalate behaviours before situations escalate further. If a pupil becomes agitated, the school encourages staff to remove them from the immediate situation to help them regulate, calm down, and re-engage with learning.
This role requires you to think on your feet and use positive reinforcement strategies to get the best out of pupils. A Team Teach qualification (or equivalent) would be advantageous, but it is not essential, as full training can be provided.
What the role will involve:
- Supporting primary and secondary aged pupils
- Building strong and trusting relationships
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Remaining resilient while supporting pupils through challenging situations
- Working alongside the class teacher to assess pupil needs and support learning both in and out of the classroom
- Encouraging pupils to work cooperatively and engage in activities
- De-escalating situations and using positive reinforcement strategies to promote learning and wellbeing
The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:
- Previous experience working with pupils who display challenging behaviour and SEMH needs
- A Team Teach qualification or relevant training (e.g. PROACT-SCIP / MAPA) — desirable but not essential
- An understanding of how to maintain a stimulating yet engaging learning environment
- Experience supporting primary or secondary aged pupils
- A flexible, proactive, empathetic and creative approach
- The ability to remain patient, calm and engaging under pressure
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register
The school is known for offering permanent positions to individuals who demonstrate hard work, reliability and dedication, making this an excellent long-term opportunity within education.
We welcome applicants from support worker, care, sports coaching and education backgrounds.
If you come from a different background but feel you would still be a strong fit for the role, we would still encourage you to apply.
