Adventure in Borneo awaits Walton Pupils
Vision for Education are delighted to support intrepid teenagers at a city school who are set to swap their comfortable classrooms for run-down buildings without electricity as they prepare to embark on a trip to Borneo. Julie Shaw and Tina Carter from Vision’s Peterborough branch presented their cheque to teacher, Damon Lewis.
Six pupils from the Voyager School, in Mountsteven Avenue, Walton, Peterborough, will travel there in May to carry out community development work and wildlife conservation projects.
The aim of the four-week trip is to raise educational standards of deprived communities within a rural district of Borneo, improve living standards and help with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes.
The pupils have to raise £3,500 each and have been embarking on a series of fundraising activities, including a bike ride and collections.
They were also happy to get the ball rolling with a £700 donation from Vision for Education.
The school’s global links coordinator Damon Lewis said: "Some of these pupils haven’t left the country before.
"This experience will help their chances of getting into the university they want and getting a really good job."
